The summer season is barely over, but San Antonio (Sant Antoni de Portmany) is already preparing its beaches for 2027.
The town hall has put out to tender a contract worth almost €100,000 to renew, repair and maintain beach equipment at five of its beaches. The work includes replacing access walkways, swapping an old lifeguard tower for a new one, and building a new shaded area for people with reduced mobility.
The new shade, measuring four metres by four, will be installed at Es Pouet. The contract also covers the upkeep of the existing walkways and shaded areas at Cala Salada, Cala Gració and Caló des Moro, and of the walkways at S’Arenal and Es Pouet.
The contract will run for one year, with no option to extend it, and the work will be scheduled with the town hall to fit around the different beach seasons.
Several San Antonio beaches, including Cala Salada, Caló des Moro and Cala Gració, have held a universal accessibility certificate for around a decade, and offer assisted bathing for people with reduced mobility during the season.
